Kick-off for next phase during CMU visit in the USA
December 2024 marked an important milestone for the AUTONOMOUS team as we gathered in Pittsburgh, USA, at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).
This meeting officially launched the next phase of our project, following our selection as a finalist for the Longitude Prize on Dementia.
Planning for the Future
Over three days, we worked together to refine our vision, define key priorities, and plan our next steps.
Particular attention was paid to key decisions regarding user research, co-design, usability testing, hardware selection, and sensor integration. On the second day, CMU researchers in the field of human-computer interaction presented their work to the team. Between meetings, the team embarked on a tour of the CMU campus, visiting the human-computer lab and other research offices.
Meeting in person gave the team the opportunity to closely align goals and discuss technical feasibility. The team focuses on affordability and accessibility. During the kick-off meeting in Pittsburgh, various sensor hardware options were considered, prioritising cost-effectiveness, and evaluating system performance on different devices to identify the most cost-effective solutions.
